Found some Vista problems. Will look into it this weekend.

Messed up the filenames for my Aqua Teen Hunger Force Eps something fierce. The episode names are still correct, but the season numbers are all one season too high.

Dennis, what file name did you drag in for Aqua Teen Hunger Force?

NVM...Filenames were as follows:

Aqua Teen Hunger Force - S01E13

and wound up as:

Aqua Teen Hunger Force.S02E17.Love Mummy.mpg

And the weird part is that the ep name is correct, and all the eps go in sequential order, but the numbers come up wrong.

The ep #'s were only totally off for Season 1. For seasons 2-4, it just called them the next season up (S02E02 would become S03E03).

Again, episode titles were still correct.

Also having problems with the program being able to locate episode titles for Invader Zim, season 1, eps 13-35. Everything else comes out fine.

Dennis,
I updated something, maybe that would solve your porblem.

I tested Aqua Teen Hunger Force - S01E13 filename, the result can out !!! EPISODE TITLE MISSING !!!. Which is correct, it's not listed in the IMDB database.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0297494/episodes

Testing filename with S02E02 was correct as it renamed to "Aqua Teen Hunger Force.S02E02.Ol' Drippy.avi"

If you still have problems, click on the show log button after each renaming sesssion, copy all and email it to me.

Okay, well, in this instance, the IMDB database is wrong. It would appear that they consider the season to be by date, while the actual first season ended with IMDB's S02E13.

This explains why every season was one number off, and the episodes for S02 were so far off. No fault on your part.

Is there any chance of giving the user the option of scraping some other site...say theTVdb?

Also...you should consider making an option to have the program automatically click "new" after running a batch. I can't tell you how many times I dragged a bunch of files onto the program only to have it do nothing cuz I forgot to click the button. :D

Thanks for the feedback Dennis.
I can't allow switching database because each site have their own way of formating their htmls. I have to decide on 1.

I did consider EPguides.com before, but IMDB had the most listings.

I'll take a look at theTVdb.com, not sure how strong their listings are.

For the Auto New, do u know you can drag multiple files in? Also multiple folders. Any sub-folders will also be dragged into theRenamer to rename.

Yes, i was aware of the multi-file capabilities. One of my favorite things.

In lieu of switching the DB...do you have an account at IMDB where you could make the suggestion that they update episodes to the proper order? I started, then tried contacting help, then realized that I couldn't verify myself.

So, in short, I can't finish the edit, and now the ep #'s are all fuxored. One of their staff could prolly mass-rename the entries, but I can't contact them...

Dennis - Sorry, I'm not a member of IMDB. theRenamer basically scans the webpage for episode titles if it exist.

I still think IMDB is the best source for theRenamer though.

I'm not sure why or how theRenamer is doing this, but any time I have the application running, my application key on the keyboard stops working (the one that brings up context menus). I've tried this on 3 different computers now, 2 laptops and one desktop with the same problem appearing on all of them (all running XP).
Apart from that I couldn't be happier with theRenamer! Great work!

Marcus - You're right, it didn't work for me too. All I can say is strange.... I'll see if I can find out the cause.

Thanks for the feedback.
It just passed 50,000 files renamed!! yah!

I am unable to see most of the text and graphics in the program. Using windows XP SP3.

the Renamer said...

Darren - I've seen this problem before. All I had to do is install the latest Adobe Flash player.
Try it.

Tried in Vista SP1. Nothing happens when folder are dropped. I was very excited about the simplicity of therenamer but it is not working for me.

the Renamer said...

Anonymous - Do you have Flash Player installed? If not, get it from Adobe.com
Your problem sounds like you don't have Vista installed.

Should work on Vista Sp1. Let me know how it goes.

Hi. I certanly have Vista SP1 installed. Also double checked Adobe Flash installation. Uninstalled and reinstalled theRenamer and tried running it as adminstrator and in xp compatibility mode. Result is always the same: program windows displays correctly, checks for updates, TV Grid and settings seems to work but dragging examples folders onto it does nothing.

the Renamer said...

Anonymous - There's no need to "Run As Administrator", or turn on XP Compatibility mode.
Your the second person the feedback about this problem. I can't seem to replicate it on my Vista or XP system. If you have the patience, please e-mail my direct (my e-mail is in the Profiles page). Hopefully I can narrow down this issue. Thanks

Help please, this great program stopped working.

It starts checking for updates, then says "User Database File Not Found"

the Renamer said...

Anonymous - Not sure why, I've not changed anything for a while.

Try re-installing theRenamer.

The "User Database File Not Found" file is a .txt file called user.txt

It is located at:
C:\Users\ASUS\Documents\theRenamer\user.txt
(ASUS is my Windows account)

Re-installing should put a fresh copy of user.txt

Thank you, reinstalling did the trick. That folder was deleted from My Document. I suggest moving it to application data.

Keep up the great work.

Hi, I am the anonymous who commented about the vista problems a while ago. I tried version 3 today and still same thing: Program do not accept any file dropped in it. Then I tried putting the executable outside "C:\Users\myname\AppData\Roaming\theRenamer" and everything works now. Could you please modify the installation directory (e.g. in program files) so it works out of the box with the picky vistas we have?

Awesome program. Pitty it does not work in vista :-(

the Renamer said...

JFR - It does work on Vista.
Care to elaborate what went wrong on your Vista?

Hi, I have the usercodes.txt missing problem in vista. Bit further up above you mention to reinstall, well, I did that several times but still have the error. I'm on vista btw.
